An 89-year-old lady named Maisie Green knitted 450 blankets and coats for dogs at her local shelter. She is a huge dog lover. This news was shared on Instagram by Dogs Trust.
This is a charity that finds homes for street dogs in the UK, and the post that they shared stated that Maisie had knitted many dog coats and blankets for Dogs Trust Basildon.
Throughout her life, Maisie has hand-knitted many blankets and sweaters for dogs. She expressed herself that she really loves dogs and knitting, and combining the two things was the best thing she could have done. To knit a blanket it takes her about 3 days and for dog coats about a day. However, she doesn’t mind this work because it keeps her busy throughout her days and simultaneously she is helping out her favorite animals.
The knitted creations that Maisie makes are generously donated to the shelter three times every year. Her family helps her by driving her to the shelter and with unloading the bulk of knitted blankets and sweaters that she makes.
Dogs Trust is one of the biggest dog welfare charity that is located in the UK and Maisie is just one of many volunteers that help the shelter regularly. The charity has 20 Rehoming Centers around the UK, as well as one in Ireland, and helps and treats over 16,000 unwanted, abandoned, and stray dogs in a year. Because of their non-destruction policy, they will not put any healthy dog to sleep.
Basildon Dogs Trust urges volunteers to donate blankets and sweaters to the pups to make them feel more comfortable, as well as encouraging people to volunteer at the shelter. Every little help to these pups is more than welcome.
